About Department

Electrical & Electronics Engineering started in 2005. The Department is bestowed with highly qualified and experienced faculty out of which 2 have completed their Ph.D. The Department offers UG programme in EEE (two sections) with an objective of imparting quality education in the Electrical and Electronics Engineering and one PG programme in Power Electronics. The Department has 11 well equipped labs with latest simulation & design software. The Department is enriched with PE, PS Labs and R&D. The Department initiated power Club in 2005.

EEE is the oldest of the engineering streams, and its applications are many. vaageswari provides this important course for the undergraduates, and there are many benefits in joining it.

The faculty strives to foster and encourage a teaching methodology that is both practical and theoretical in approach tuning to the requirements of the latest developments in research and industry in the field of Electrical and Electronics Engineering.

The department has well established laboratories with sophisticated equipment supplementing the academic needs of the students. The lab facilities are being upgraded from time to time, to provide adequate opportunities for the students to learn and innovate.

The department is actively engaged in research. The efforts are directed towards reorienting the laboratories to establish close relation with industry. The department has been organizing short term training programs, seminars, workshops, guest lectures by experts, technical & non-technical student fests regularly. The department is working for the improvement of Industry – Institute Interaction in terms of academics & research and also for the development of infrastructure to match the needs of the industry. The department is striving hard to attain & sustain as a centre of excellence in Electrical engineering education & research with a holistic approach.

Educational tours and industrial visits are regularly organized to enhance the practical knowledge of the students and to keep them abreast with the latest technological applications in various industries so that their employability skills are enhanced.

The Department has an Exclusive Library of various text books for quick reference .It is equipped with a number of volumes of books in subjects like Power Systems Engg.,Electrical Basic Circuits and Network Analysis, Electrical Machines, Power Electronics, Control Engg., and Electronic Engg. It is also equipped with some volumes on advanced subjects like Digital Signal Processing and Digital Image Processing. It also has books related to Quantitative Aptitude which will be helpful to students during campus placements. The number of career prospects for this group is huge, and it is the reason for many people to join this course. These students are offered with high salaried jobs, especially in the public sector. They are needed in power industry, electrical machine industries, etc. A number of private companies also offer lucrative job roles for these engineers. Due to this requirement, Vaageswari gives a special preference to EEE, and we had built a special base for this group. EEE is one of the core streams of engineering, and it is required in any case. Hence the demand for this group never decreases, and it is the steadiest stream ever

Alumni Chapter is in existence and regularly interacting with them to get feedback with regard to academic, placements etc. matters. Their suggestions are taken into consideration in various developmental activities of the department. Many of our alumni are pursuing their higher studies in IITs and reputed universities, abroad. More than 70% of the eligible students are being placed in reputed companies in every year.

Welcome to the department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at Vaageswari College of Engineering, Karimnagar, Telangana. The department works with the objective of addressing critical challenges faced by the Industry, society and the academia. Perhaps even more important is our unceasing commitment to our students, helping them to learn, grow, develop, and achieve their goals in their pursuit to excel in their professional career.

 Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering is one of the largest department in Vaageswari College of Engineering with nearly 18 faculty members and more than 500 undergraduate and master’s students. The department’s graduate programs continue to draw from a very strong application pool. The department was established in the year 2005 and since its inception the department has evolved from offering only undergraduate courses to offer post graduate in key areas of electrical and Electronic engineering.

            The department faculty work with excellent team spirit in different technical team like Power System, Electrical Machines, Power Electronics, Modern Electric Drives, Control System, Renewable Energy, Electrical Measurement & Instrumentation, Power Generation, Communication systems, Electronic gadgets, Programming of Microcontroller, Digital System Design etc.  which leads to key research publications  in these areas. The department strives to provide a conductive environment for the students to develop analytical and practical skills and apply them to real world problems. To motivate the students the department organizes regular training in state of art software & hardware, arranges workshop, technical events, seminars & industrial visit.

    Admissions to regular B.Tech programmes are made based on the rank secured in Engineering, Agriculture & Medicine common entrance test (EAMCET) conducted by Telengana State Council of Higher Education, Hyderabad. Three year diploma holders, with engineering common entrance test (ECET) ranking are eligible for admission into B.Tech Programmes.

DC Machines Lab

The objective of the DC Machines Laboratory is to impart knowledge about characteristics and behavior of the DC Machines, operation of DC machines and give them experimental skill, familiarize with the constructional details of different types, working principle and their performance. It also provides the essential facilities to the students to augment their concepts about the fundamentals of rotating machines. It is well equipped lab to provide experimental and hands-on experience to the detailed study of characteristic and operational aspects of DC electrical machines.

Facilities:DC Shunt Motor - Generator Set (04 Nos), DC Shunt Motor - Series Generator Set (02 Nos), DC Shunt Motor - Compound Generator (02 Nos), Identical DC Shunt Machines, Identical DC Series Machines, DC Shunt Motor (05 Nos)

Power Electronics Lab

The objective of the Power Electronics laboratory is to study the characteristics of switching devices and its applications in rectifiers, AC voltage controllers, inverter and choppers. It also acquaint with the application of electronic devices for conversion, control and conditioning of electric power. Further it aids the students to acquire an overview of different types of power semiconductor devices and to cognize the operation, characteristics and performance parameters of controlled rectifiers.

The principle of operation, switching techniques, modulation techniques and harmonic reduction techniques in PWM inverters are studied in the lab. It also provides experience with common components such as motors, batteries and power semiconductors. The lab facilitates faculty and students who are conducting research, industry sponsored projects in power converters in particular and electrical energy conversion in general.

Facilities: Silicon controlled rectifier, TRAIC, DIAC, MOSFET and IGBT Characteristics study unit, Operational Amplifier Trainer, DC Chopper power unit, UJT firing circuit, Forced Commutation study unit, fully controlled converter power circuit, Cycloconverter power circuit, Parallel Inverter, Half controller converter power circuit, Series Inverter, AC voltage controller, power scopes

Power Systems Lab

This laboratory is designed to give students hands-on experience on different equipment of electrical power system. This is an advanced laboratory to carry out modeling, simulation and analysis of power system equipments. Students can practically verify several concepts and procedures learned in power system modeling and analysis. This lab has facilities to study the protection of equipment by relays in conjunction with switchgear. This lab also helps to model and analyze the dynamics of power system for small signal and large signal disturbances and design the systems for enhancing stability. It familiarizes with the preparatory work necessary for meeting the next day’s operation and the various control actions to be implemented on the system to get an overview of system operation and control, to understand and model power-frequency dynamics and to design power-frequency controller, to understand and model reactive power-voltage interaction and different methods of control for maintaining voltage profile against varying system.

Facilities: Power Generation Simulation Unit, Transmission Line Simulation Unit, Feeder Protection Simulation Unit, Microprocessor based relay, differential relay, sequence components set-up, fault analysis set-up, Earth fault relay, Over voltage relay, Megger.

Electrical Measurements and Instrumentation Lab

The aim of the Electrical Measurements Laboratory is to reinforce the students with an adequate work experience in the measurement of different quantities and also to expertise in handling the instruments involved. The basic operations of sensors and the process where it might be used, practically realized in the laboratory.

It also provides facilities to train the students in the measurement of displacement, resistance, inductance, torque and angle etc., and to give exposure to AC, DC bridges and transient measurement. These sensors and signal conditioning circuits are then implemented in various projects and real time applications

Facilities: Transformer oil testing set up, Single Phase Energy Meter (02 Nos), DC Potentiometer, Kelvin’s Double Bridge, Schering and Anderson’s Bridge, Current Transformers (06 Nos), Strain Guage Kit, LVDT Kit, Dynamometer power factor meter, Thermostat, Resistance Temperature Detector, Thermocouple, Thermistor, Bidirectional energy meter, Encoders, Speed, Pressure and distance measurement set ups, watt meters.

control Systems Lab

The aim of the Control Systems laboratory is to provide sound knowledge in the basic concepts of linear control theory and design of control systems, to understand the methods of representation of systems and getting their transfer function models. It facilitates basic knowledge in obtaining the open loop and closed loop responses to understand the concept of stability of control systems. It also helps the students to study the compensation design for a system.

AC Machines Lab

AC Machines laboratory is designed for students to perform experiments on transformers, Inductions motors and Synchronous machines. The main objective of this laboratory is to i mpart knowledge about characteristics and behavior of the AC Machines, operation of transformers, synchronous and asynchronous machines and give them experimental skill, familiarize with the constructional details of different types, working principle and their performance.

This lab consists of machines and all are mounted in industrial type of assembly to give the students industrial feel. Well established with all kinds of motors and variable frequency drives (VFDs). The lab has moderate machines and students are using for project and research work also.


Facilities: Single phase transformer (12 Nos), three phase transformer (06 Nos), Induction Motors (06 Nos), three phase synchronous motor (02 Nos), Alternator Sets (04 Nos) and drives (05 Nos)

Electrical Circuits Lab

The Electrical Circuits Laboratory assists the students to impart with essential knowledge of electrical and electronic circuit design and analysis and provide hands on experience to design different electrical and electronic circuits with bread boards and with different active and passive components. This Lab gives the practical learning and use of various instruments like Multimeter, Oscilloscopes, Function Generators, Wattmeter’s etc. Along with this, they do practical verification of various electrical theorems, Tests on Transformer, measurement of power in three phase circuits using wattmeter etc. Facilities: Regulated power supply (30 Nos), Cathode ray oscilloscope (20 Nos), Function Generators (15 Nos), MATLAB and LabVIEW Software
